Mulch
The most popular of the mulches, this reddish mulch is made of fir and alder. It is used mainly for topdressing gardens. The bark mulch helps to retain moisture and keep weeds down in the garden. Should be applied a minimum of 3" deep for best results. Also note that as mulches break down, they leach nitrogen from the soil, so you should be applying an all purpose fertilizer to the plants before spreading mulch. Fertilizer such as 6-8-6 or milorganite are great all-purpose fertilizers for this application.

The most common use for Coarse Bark Mulch is as a topdressing on gardens. This product looks fantastic on gardens that are in a wooded area. The Coarse Mulch will give your garden a more rugged/country look than the regular Fine Bark Mulch. The mulch consists of a combination of fir and alder. It is reddish brown in colour. Remeber when applying bark mulch to apply an all-purpose fertilizer such as 6-8-6 or milorganite before hand, as bark mulch robs the soil of nitrogen as it breaks down.
